Cytology and Histopathology Report

Section reveal fragments of tissue including gray and white matters of cerebral hemisphere with a neoplasm, the latter is composed of proliferated astrocytic glial cells. It is highly cellular and pleomorphic, containing spindly and giant mononuclear and multinucleated forms, at times having glassy and occasionally vacuolated xanthematous, cytoplasm, juxtaposed with less cellular and less atypical astrocytes at the periphery. The vessels are prominent and congested. The neoplasm contains focal lymphocytic infiltration. Special stain reveals abundant reticulin fibers between neoplastic cells.

 

Gross: The specimen consists of numerous tissues the overall measuring 4 x 3.5 x 3 cm. R.S.S

 

DX: Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma(grade I in new WHO classification).
