I finally was able to review the films and records. Take my comments with a grain of salt given that I'm not caring for, nor have I examined this patient. I assume that the majority of is neurologic status is due to hepatic encephalopathy according to the notes, but the shunt has not decompressed the ventricles, and this may be as a result of several
factors, one of them being poor absorption of CSF fluid secondary to the ascites.
Sometimes when this is suspected, the shunt tube is externalized outside
the skin and drained into a bag until this situation is corrected in the body.
It looks like the surgeons did an excellent job with the tumor resection, and shunt placement, and that the pathology of pleomorphic
xanthostrocytoma overall carries a good prognosis.
